  Dharwad:  Today, I’ll share a series of images that tell a disturbing story: how the pursuit of development can leave deep scars on Mother Nature. What we call progress often comes at a price, forests cleared, landscapes altered, rivers disturbed and habitats lost. Through these images, I hope to draw attention to what is quietly being sacrificed in the name of development. "The Forest That Refused to Disappear" I deliberately embraced a hazy, blurred rendition while capturing this landscape—not to obscure the scene, but to express what it felt like. The indistinct forms, wavering trunks and softened reflections make the forest appear almost like a fading memory. These dead trees, standing silently in the water, are remnants of a forest that once breathed with life. The deliberate softness transforms them into ghostly silhouettes, evoking the loss, silence and melancholy of a landscape that has been stripped of its living soul. Dharwad:  The three-day exhibition, lecture cum demonstration, slideshow and interaction with Prof Babu Jattakar at the Government College of Fine Arts, here under the aegis of Chitrakala Shilpi Shri D V Halabhavi National Memorial Trust and the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka turned out to be a treat to the art students, admirers, and art enthusiasts of the twin cities.  Ramzan Darga, renowned journalist, thinker and President of Karnataka Kulapurohit Alur Venkatrao Memorial Trust graced the inauguration event as the chief guest and was highly appreciative of the meticulously worked pen and ink drawings of Prof Babu Jattakar. Bengaluru:  The Karnataka Cartoonists’ Association will honour veteran cartoonist L. N. Rao with a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his contribution and achievements in the field of cartooning.  The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, 05 September, at 11:00 a.m. The programme is being organised with the support of the Indian Institute of Cartoonists. About the Awardee Lakshminarayana Rao M. (L. N. Rao) hails from Kuntaru in Kasaragod district. He studied law in Udupi and is a bank employee by profession. However, inspired by cartoonists Nadig and K. R. Swamy, he took up cartooning. His very first cartoon was published in the magazine Mayura in 1980. He has received several awards and honours, including the state-level award from the magazine “Nage Mugulu” and an Hindustan Times Award, besides several other prizes and recognitions. L. N.
