Dharwad: The three-day exhibition, lecture cum demonstration, slideshow and interaction with Prof Babu Jattakar at the Government College of Fine Arts, here under the aegis of Chitrakala Shilpi Shri D V Halabhavi National Memorial Trust and the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka turned out to be a treat to the art students, admirers, and art enthusiasts of the twin cities.
Ramzan Darga, renowned journalist, thinker and President of Karnataka Kulapurohit Alur Venkatrao Memorial Trust graced the inauguration event as the chief guest and was highly appreciative of the meticulously worked pen and ink drawings of Prof Babu Jattakar.
B Maruti, President of the Chitrakala Shilpi Shri D V Halabhavi National Memorial Trust, presided over the function.
Suresh Halabhavi, artist son of late D V Halabhavi, recalled the contributions of his father to the art field and the significance of the Halabhavi Trust being the only one in the whole state for fine arts.
Prof S K Pattar, Principal of the Government College of Fine Arts, and Member of the Halabhavi Trust and others participated in the function.
A feast of colors to the students: The three-day program attracted artists, art lovers, admirers, well wishers, enthusiasts, friends and relatives of Prof Babu Jattakar, from Dharwad, Hubballi, Belagavi, Davanagere and Bengaluru, among many other places.
B G Gujjarappa, internationally acclaimed cartoonist, caricaturist, and patron of the Karnataka Cartoonists Association, R Suri, veteran artist, and Member, Karnataka Lalitkala Academy, Y S Nanjundaswamy, President of Karnataka Cartoonists Association were also present during the deliberations of the first two days. Mrs Geeta Jattakar, wife of Prof Babu Jattakar also attended the inauguration ceremony.
The students of the Government College of Fine Arts took active part in enabling the three-day program in a smooth and conducive manner. Many of them helped in mounting the miniature and big art works of Prof Babu Jattakar, in a typical, professional way of doing things aesthetically. Nine students have reflected here with their opinions on the three-day art festival.
A profound silence and grace: Stepping into the art exhibition curated by Prof. Babu Jattkar was an immersive journey into the delicate realms of traditional mastery and natural beauty. Renowned for his extraordinary specialization in Pen and ink drawings , sir's canvas brought a profound silence and grace to the gallery floor.
The precision of his line work paired with a rich depth of perspective instantly mesmerized onlookers, evoking a nostalgia for serene landscapes that are slowly being forgotten in our fast paced urban lives
The highlight of the event was the interaction program, where students, art enthusiasts and veteran critics engaged directly with Prof. Jattkar. The attendees were treated to his firsthand wisdom on the discipline and structural patience required for fine ink drawing.
Sir gracefully demystified his creative process answering nuanced technical questions while fostering a welcoming space that inspired budding creatives to look at their own environments through a finer lens.

A distinctive style of pen art: The artworks of renowned artist Prof Babu Jattakar particularly caught my attention. He is an artist who uses pen and paper as his medium to create extremely detailed and realistic drawings. Through his art, he beautifully portrays nature, life, and human emotions.
The speciality of his work lies in creating remarkable artworks using an ordinary pen and paper, with thousands of intricate lines. A detailed pen art, realistic line drawing, and light and shade technique are the prominent features seen in his works.
Prof Babu Jattakar’s distinctive style of pen art has earned a special place in the field of art.

One of the most distinctive features of his pen art is his ability to create light and shade, form, depth, and texture using thousands of fine lines with nothing more than an ordinary pen and paper.
His artworks prominently demonstrate Detailed Pen Art, Realistic Line Drawing, Cross-Hatching, Fine Line Work, and Light & Shade Techniques. His remarkable ability to carefully observe even the smallest details and reproduce them accurately through lines is particularly impressive.
The level of detail and realism he achieves using a single medium—the pen—reflects his patience, continuous practice, dedication, and passion for art.
Prof Babu Jattakar’s style serves as an inspiration to young and aspiring artists.

We are especially delighted that our Government College of Fine Arts, Dharwad, hosted this three-day program. I personally enjoyed viewing all your landscape paintings. I was particularly impressed by the fine pen lines and the detailed work in your drawings.
I also greatly admire the disciplined presentation of your framed artworks, your distinctive artistic style, and your beautiful depictions of nature, plants, and trees. The color treatment and the water color-like approach used in the backgrounds of some of your works are also very impressive.

A wonderful and inspiring experience: The art exhibition by renowned Bengaluru-based artist Prof Babu Jattakar Sir, along with the live demonstration, was a wonderful and inspiring experience for all of us.
During the live demonstration, Shri Jattakar Sir introduced us to a new approach to art by creating an amazing texture on canvas and using it to depict a beautiful tree branch. His technique was both creative and fascinating to observe.
Along with this, he also demonstrated how to create a beautiful landscape using a pen on a small 8 × 10 cm sheet of paper. The tree he drew with delicate, intricate lines, along with the fallen wall beside it, was especially beautiful.
The precision of his fine lines and the level of detail in such a small artwork were truly impressive. Watching him work inspired us to experiment with new techniques and motivated us to create beautiful artworks of our own.

An inspiration to develop my own skills: As part of the “Chintana-Manthana with Achievers” programme organised by the D. V. Halbhavi National Memorial Trust at the Government College of Fine Arts, an art exhibition, live demonstration, and interactive session were held with senior artist Prof. Babu Jattakar Sir.
All the students of our Government College of Fine Arts participated in the program, and I was one of them. I had the opportunity to attend all three days of the program, listen to Jattakar Sir’s speech and words, and observe his artwork closely. I was extremely happy and inspired by the experience.
What impressed me the most was his gentle and affectionate personality. His qualities, behaviour, and way of interacting with others are so warm that even young children would naturally like him. Babu Jattakar Sir is truly a soft-hearted and kind person.
On the second day, Jattakar Sir gave a live demonstration of watercolor painting in front of everyone. His demonstration was also shown live on a screen so that all the students of our college could watch it clearly. Everyone enjoyed sitting together and observing his techniques.
His artworks were displayed on the walls of our college gallery. Visitors who came to the program went to the gallery and were amazed to see his works. I was also deeply impressed by his artworks, and they inspired me to develop my own skills and create paintings in a similar spirit.
Sir has been practicing pen drawing for many years. The detailed and beautiful artworks he creates using a pen are truly remarkable.
On the third day, he presented his artworks one by one on the screen and explained each of them to all of us. His explanations helped us understand not only the artworks but also the ideas and techniques behind them.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to our Principal for providing the opportunity to introduce such a multifaceted and accomplished artist to the art students and art enthusiasts of our region.
I also extend my heartfelt thanks to the D. V. Halbhavi National Memorial Trust (Regd.), Dharwad, for organizing this valuable art exhibition, demonstration, and interactive session with Prof. Babu Jattakar.

A memorable three-day art experience
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the staff of our college and the members of the D. V. Halbhavi organisation for organizing the three-day program held on 20, 21 and 22 August 2026.
I would also like to thank Prof Babu Jattakar Sir. We truly consider these three days as very meaningful and memorable days. I was greatly impressed by the artworks, use of colors, and the delicate details in the paintings. Every aspect of art brought me immense joy.
I particularly loved your pen-and-ink style. I also liked the way you hold and use the pen while creating your artworks. I have learned many new things from you through this program.
I realized for the first time that such beautiful landscape drawings can also be created using a pen. The paintings may consist of hundreds of tiny lines, but behind those small lines lies a vast amount of experience, observation, and deep understanding of art.

A very inspiring and valuable experience: I had a wonderful opportunity to attend the three-day exhibition, demonstration and interaction program of artist Prof Babu Jatkar. It was a very inspiring and valuable experience for me as an art student. The program gave me an opportunity to understand not only his artworks but also his artistic journey, working process, patience and dedication towards art.
During the slideshow, the artist displayed his works from the beginning stage of his career to his more detailed and developed works. This helped us understand his growth as an artist and the importance of continuous practice. Each artwork reflected his observation, creativity and unique way of expression.
Another memorable part of the program was the interactive session. Artist Prof Babu Jattakar communicated warmly and openly with everyone. He patiently answered questions and shared his experiences with students and art lovers. His simple and friendly communication made the program more meaningful .
Overall, these three days were a great learning experience for me. I learned the importance of patience, practice, observation and dedication in the journey of an artist. I feel grateful for getting an opportunity to witness the works and artistic journey of Prof Babu Jatkar. This program will remain a memorable and inspiring experience in my journey as an art student

A memorable experience for art lovers: The painting exhibition and interaction session by the renowned artist and former Principal of the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Prof. Babu Jattakar, was a highly memorable experience for art lovers.
Art Style and Technique: His pen-and-ink drawings and miniature works portrayed the surrounding environment, historical monuments, and the beauty of nature with remarkable delicacy and attention to detail.
