Bengaluru: The Chitrakala Shilpi DV Halabhavi National Trust presented its annual awards at a colourful ceremony in the Art Gallery of the Government Fine Arts College in Dharwad on Sunday. BG Gujjarappa was presented with the Kuncha Kala Tapasvi national lifetime achievement award, while Chandrahas Jalihal, a renowned Kalaburagi-based artist, was honoured with the 'Kuncha Kalasri' National Award. Ms Deepali Sandesh Khule of Mumbai and Namadeva Pattekar of North Canara district were presented with the 'Yuva Kuncha Kalashri' awards.
'Kuncha Kala Tapasvi' award to BG Gujjarappa: The Kuncha Kala Tapasvi national lifetime achievement award was presented to the Bengaluru-based BG Gujjarappa, veteran artist and cartoonist. The award is in recognition of his contributions to the cultural field, including over 37 years of continuous service with pen, brush, and colours, as well as several reputed publications in the state. The honour also consists of a cash prize of Rs one lakh.
'Kuncha Kalasri' award to Chandrahas Jalihal: Chandrahas Jalihal, a renowned Kalaburagi-based artist, was honoured with the 'Kuncha Kalasri' National Award. The honour also consists of a cash prize of Rs 50,000. Chandrahas Jalihal, an art teacher by profession and woodcut print artist by passion, is the proud owner of the new Anuchandra Visual Arts and Cultural Society and Gallery.
'Kuncha Kalasri' National Award: Ms Deepali Sandesh Khule of Mumbai and Namadeva Pattekar of North Canara district were presented with the 'Yuva Kuncha Kalashri' awards. The award also carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
A legacy of its own: The annual award in memory of the yesteryear art wizard DV Halabhavi, who founded the School of Art in Dharwad, has a legacy of its own. A lecture cum demonstration was arranged by the recipients of the DV Halahavi Memorial National and Youth awards on the morning of 28th November at 11 am in the premises of the Government Fine Arts College's Art Gallery in Dharwad
DV Halabhavi, in the forefront: Dr Lohit Naikar presented the awards and lauded the efforts of late DV Halabhavi in spreading awareness about fine arts in the pre-independent era. He also mentioned that many fine art artists of North Karnataka became well-known in the field, while DV Halabhavi was in the forefront among them.
B Maruti, President of the Trust, presided over the function. Chandrakant Bellad, President of the Karnataka Vidyawardhaka Sangha, Suresh Halabhavi, Mrs Parvati Halabhavi and Kumar Bekkeri, Secretary of the Trust, graced the occasion. Dr Jagadeesh Koppa spoke on the accomplishments of the awardees.
Presentation of Caricature: Nanjunda Swamy, President of the Karnataka Cartoonists Association, Bengaluru, presented his caricature of BG Gujjarappa to the "Kuncha Kala Tapasvi" national lifetime achievement awardee on this occasion. Prof Babu Jattakar, former Principal of the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishat, accompanied him.
