Padmashri Prof. Pierre Silvain Filliozat's last rites according to Hindu customs


Bengaluru: The world-renowned Sanskrit scholar, Mahamahopadyaya,  Padmashri Prof. Pierre Silvain Filliozat, passed away on 28.12.2024 in Paris. Prof. Filliozat, being a devoted Scholar in the Sanskrit language, had great love for India, its culture, tradition and heritage.

As per his wishes, his last rites according to Hindu customs are going to be held in his beloved Hampi. These final rites are to be performed under the leadership and directions of renowned Scholar & Kshetra Purohit of Dakshina Kashi and Pampa Kshetra Hampi, Sri Mohan Chikkabhat Joshi and his son, Sri Santhosh Gurunath Joshi, on 26th and 27th of July, 2025, at Sri Vashishtashrama area on the banks of the river Tungabhadra.

These are the following dates and times of the rites to be performed at Hampi.

On 26th July 2025: Morning at 10:30 am, Performing rituals on the remains of Prof. Filliozat ~ Rituals to the remains and immersing them in the Tungabhadra river as per the Shastras. Later, Dasha Pinda Samaradhane and Dharmodaka.

These rites will be performed on the banks of the River Tungabhadra behind Sri Viroopaksha Swamy Temple, Hampi.

Afternoon 12:15 onwards meeting to express condolences to his wife and family, and remembering his contributions by his friends and colleagues.

Followed by Prasada distribution (Lunch) at 1:30 pm at Sri Gayatri Peetha, Hampi.

On 27th July 2025: Morning 10:30 am; Kailasa Ganaradhane and Shraddha rites on the banks of Tungabhadra river, behind Sri Viroopaksha Swamy temple.

At 1:30 pm, Prasada distribution at Sri Gayathri Peetha, Hampi. 

Bereaved Family Members: Dr. Vasundhara Kavali Filliozat (wife), Smt. Manonmani & Sri Bruno (elder daughter & son-in-law), Smt. Bhamati & Sri Julien (second daughter & son-in-law) and grandchildren, Melaine Basaveshwara & Jean-Malo Shankara, have requested to attend the last rites ceremonies of Prof. Pierre Sylvain Filliozat and pray for Sadgathi and peace to the departed soul.

    Prof. Filliozat was great a great scholar and with tremendous knowledge on Indian culture apart form Sanskrit, and a nice gentleman. We had the luck of hosting him and his family in our house. We send our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Dr S.L. Hoti, ICMR-VCRC, Pondicherry.
