“Just like people in this country there is no dearth of human beings continuing to evince keen interest in knowing the rudiments of philosophy,” says NV Raghuram, senior faculty of philosophy at the S-VYAS to be deemed university here.

Drawn to philosophy from childhood: In a way, he is a living practitioner of philosophy all along. For, he says: “Since childhood, I have been driven to the noble thoughts our philosophy continue to profess. After all, what is it we face in our lifetime? It’s nothing else but life and livelihood, the whole life revolves around one’s understanding of mind and people”.
No regrets, bad feelings: If you are in a hurry to infer that Nelamangala Vruddhi Raghuram is another highly educated personality finding rescue in the Ramakrishna mission, then you are mistaken. Of course, he had been a civil engineer and worked in the Chennai airport and later returned to join the Karnataka Power Corporation (KPC) to work for 15 years. He admits: “I was a good engineer having enjoyed my tenure wherever I have served. There are neither any regrets nor bad feelings”.
Like one conversing with another: He agrees-“There is no dearth of pontiffs, religious heads, swamiji's, Godmen and women on the universe. But my way of dealing with philosophy is entirely different from what is being practised. It’s literally like an ordinary person conversing with another fellow being”.
Keep doing without any expectations: “Here, there is no need of publishing papers. There are a group of people who are fond of listening to me and conversing with them. And I keep doing so without any expectations”, says NV Raghuram.
Commercialization of philosophy: He doesn’t refute the current trend of commercialization of philosophy-“Yes, it is a fact. There are many people who lecture on noble thoughts to be practised by their disciples. But, when it comes to imbibing the same individuals they prefer to desist from doing so!”
70 countries in a year! These days, NV Raghuram keeps visiting about 15-20 countries every year to impart knowledge about the scriptures. Earlier, it used to be 70 countries annually. He exclaims: “There are still people across the world that are still enthusiastic in having an understanding of philosophy”.
Co-founder of S-VYASA: Apart from Dr HR Nagendra and Dr Nagarathna Raghuram, NV Raghuram also happens to be one of the co-founders of the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana Arogyadhama(S-VYASA), while Dr Nagarathna happens to be his wife.
Association from the beginning: He has been associated with S-VYASA ever since the organization came into being. NV Raghuram has also been closely involved with the development of the institution in his own way by conducting camps and therapies’
No official positions so far: “Dr HR Nagendra was immersed wholly while I was doing so in my spare time initially as a co-founder. However, I am not holding any official position since inception but actively involved in research-based activities and camps abroad”, he explains.
From philosophy to therapy and education: On tracking the development and transformation of S-VYASA, he recalls-“Earlier there was a lot of emphasis on the understanding of philosophy and scriptures. Gradually, it evolved into more a therapy oriented and education-based institute.
Spiritual component still close to the heart: NV Raghuram is assertive in consenting-“I still hold the spiritual component as close to my heart. Apart from the phenomenal growth the institution continues to impart spiritual knowledge”.
Founder, Yoga Bharati: Along with being a co-founder of S-VYASA, he is also a founder of Yoga Bharati international Yoga organization. To start with it was based out of California, San Hose but now has spread over to several other places as well. He is also involved with Disha Bharati, a value-based educational organization. He is also a management committee member of Dhruva College of Management in Hyderabad.
