Bengaluru: Buddha Purnima was celebrated at a house here in an unassuming, austere manner, unlike the usual pomp, religious reformers' memorable days are observed elsewhere in public function halls and on sprawling grounds. The venue happened to be S Rudramuni's residence in Venkategowda Layout, Hebbal Kempapura. Rudramuni is a former officer of the State Bank of India (SBI) and is active in social circles, organising free health check-up camps in Hebbal Coffee Board Layout and the adjoining Amruthahalli area.
Grandchildren steal the show: On the face of it, the event looked like an event showcasing the hidden talents of the grandchildren of S Rudramuni, apart from their courteous, gentle and pleasing manners extended towards the visiting elderly guests. They welcomed all the guests with folded hands in a typical traditional way, offering water to drink. They also shared the responsibilities of conducting the proceedings in a shared manner, ensuring a smooth flow all along.
Three generations take part in the celebrations: Apart from S Rudramuni, his sister's grandchildren, Kumari Sharanya, Kumari Jeevitha, Kumari Monisha, Kumari Ruchitha, and Master Manvith, enjoyed enthusiastically by actively taking part in the deliberations. Nageshwar S T, his wife Mrs Sangeeta and sister Lalitha Shree extended wholehearted support by encouraging the kids in all their activities.
Brief note on the three stalwarts: Along with Bhagwan Buddha, Basaveshwara and Dr B. R. Ambedkar's contributions to the upliftment of society were recollected by tomorrow's citizens. All of them read out their assertion on the towering personalities, paying glowing tributes.
Follow the ideals of Bhagwan Buddha: Dr Shivanna called upon the kids to make it a point to go through the life history of Bhagwan Buddha in a bid to understand the message and principles of the revered saint, philosopher and reformer. He also dwelt upon the significance of adhering to a truthful approach in personal life in the overall interests of humanity.
Plea to read the constitution: Muddurangappa, a retired bureaucrat, spoke on the testing times Dr Ambedkar underwent during his student days and the highest number of degrees he acquired, despite unimaginable odds throughout his life. He also advocated following the threefold strategy of educate, agitate and organise, as emphasised by Dr Ambedkar.
Do good and be good: Simon C M, a social worker and President of the People's Charitable Trust, mentioned that all religious heads have been unanimous in advocating noble ideas and thoughts, and it is the duty of the followers to be good and do good to society. Prakash Rao and Venkataiah also addressed the gathering, urging the children to imbibe the great virtues of the learned men.
