Bengaluru:
A Kannada book on lymphoedema and integrative medicine was released at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Kanthavara Kannada Association in Moodbidri. K Sreepathy Bhat, Honorary President of the reception committee, released the book, recalling the journey of Dr SR Narahari, founding Director of 'The Institute of Applied Dermatology' (IAD), located at Kasargodu in Kerala.

Ane Kalige Ankusha-Sayonjita Chiketseya Harikara Dr Narahari Mattu IAD: The book titled 'Ane Kalige Ankusha-Sayonjita Chiketseya Harikara Dr Narahari Mattu IAD' is nothing but a documentation of the path traversed from 1999 to date in treating the inhuman disease, which continues to haunt tens of thousands of people infected with a mosquito bite.

Amalgamation of several medical systems: Perhaps, the credit for Dr SR Narahari and his team's success goes to their consistent, prolonged approach and amalgamation of multiple medical systems, keeping in mind the overall beneficial effects to the patients.

A role model for medicinal literature:
Dr TR Anantramu, senior scientist, in his remarks about the book, asserts, "Although the multi-approach of various medical systems to evolve a full-fledged treatment plan and continuous efforts to derive the same demand a specialised attention. However, this book is a role model for the vital aspects to consider in dealing with medicinal literature and the way things need to be presented in an acceptable form to the general public".

Relentless efforts for two years: Dr SR Narahari has also revealed his relentless efforts for two years with multiple medical systems in formulating a treatment plan. He also candidly admits to making a thorough study of the strengths and weaknesses of Allopathic, Ayurveda, Homoeopathic and Traditional systems, apart from Yoga, before arriving at a feasible solution to benefit the patients.

World-renowned institute:
The Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD), located at Kasargodu in Kerala, is a prominent world-renowned lymphoedema and integrative medicine skin hospital sought after by patients from across the country and South East Asian countries. The only such hospital in the whole of the country provides relief and solutions by integrating Ayurveda, Homoeopathy treatments, Yoga and many other traditional methods combined effectively with modern medicine. Founded in 1999, the institute has completed 26 years, which Dr SR Narahari, the founding Director, proudly proclaims as transforming lives.

More than 26 years of Indo-European research:
Thanks to over 26 years of Indo-European research and experience, apart from treating more than 10,000 patients under its roof, IAD has blossomed from a small clinic to the nation’s primary dermatology hospital. In fact, the medical institute offers integrative treatment for various forms of skin-related ailments, including lymphatic filariasis, vitiligo, psoriasis, lichen planus, wound care, warts, and hemiplegia.

Mission to provide value-based healthcare:
IAD was established with a mission to provide value-based healthcare and support to people. It also pioneered the first successful Integrated Treatment Protocol to treat chronic diseases, especially Lymphedema. Since its inception, it has begun to focus on Lymphedema/Filariasis treatment apart from developing a Yoga protocol for the treatment of Lymphedema. IAD believes in clinical observation (investigation) as a prelude to fundamental research and accordingly treats the patients based on such clinical observation. It is also jointly undertaking a study of skin behaviour, development and treatment in collaboration with the Kasargodu Central University.

Manohar Yadavatti has done a good job- his review is insightful and reflects the mass opinion of the book- a line in appreciation of author’s effort would have added further face value of the book

When Punjab Chief Minister's Son Was Paraded On Underwear

Year, 1959, Place Amritsar. Some Indian Army Officers & their wives went to the Railway Station to see off one of their colleagues. Some goons made lewd remarks against the women & tried to molest them. The Army Officers chased the goons who took shelter in a nearby Cinema Theatre. The matter was reported to Commanding Officer Col Jyothi Mohan Sen. On learning about the incident, the Col ordered the Cinema Hall to be surrounded by troops. All the goons were dragged out, the leader of the goons was so heady and drunk with power; he was none other than the son of Chief Minister of Punjab, Pratap Singh Kairon, a close associate of the then PM, Jawahar Lal Nehru. All the goons were stripped to their underwear, paraded in the streets of Amritsar & later interned in the Cantonment. The next day, the Chief Minister became furious & tried to release his son from Indian Army's incarceration. Do you know what happened? His vehicle was not allowed to go into the Cantonment a...

Basavanna: Equality, Humanity and Human Rights

Bengaluru: Akshaya Trutiya is the birthday of Lord Basaveshwara or Basavanna, the 12th-century revolutionary poet and religious reformer who rebelled against all blind beliefs, practices and rituals of Hinduism. It also goes to his credit of bringing God to one’s palms while simultaneously and vehemently opposing the tradition of visiting temples and places of pilgrimages in search of the almighty. Interestingly, unfortunately, or sadly what his followers or disciples have been doing all along would be another separate topic for discussion and better to forget for the time being. A Hindu Protestant: Dr Godwin Shiri, former Director of Christian Institute For The Study Of Religion And Society (CISRS), Bengaluru, during an informal interaction, opined-“Basavanna can be aptly described as a Hindu Protestant as he was in the forefront of opposing blind beliefs”. Influenced by Buddha: Mallikarjun G Kelagade, former Director of the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) kee...

Dharwad's Arya Durga, Rukmini and Saraswati...: From Nothing to Crores and Crores...

Bengaluru: Arya Durga Kirani Stores, with Rukmini and Saraswati outlets, are household names for all those residing in and natives of Dharwad. It was a humble and austere beginning, dating back a few decades, thanks to hard work, sincerity, and trustworthy behaviour with customers, the business flourished and grew in leaps and bounds in an unimaginable proportion. Started working at the age of eight years! The owner, late Gajanan Vitthal Shetti, was primarily from Ankola in the North Canara (Karwar) district. Ankola, a coastal town, is renowned for its Salt Satyagraha during the freedom struggle movement. The financial condition of Shetti's family was too critical, making it too difficult to meet even the basic demands of day-to-day life. He began working at a ration shop while he was only eight years of age and continued working until he became 15 years old. Mahalakshmi Hotel boomerangs: Then Gajanan Vitthal Shetti came to Hubballi to do business. He came with his father, Vitth...
