Bengaluru: On 13 September, there was a festive atmosphere at Shree Katyayani High School, located in Aversa village in Ankola Taluk of North Canara district. The occasion was the launching of the Digital Smart Board and Inverter set, donated by Rajan Vaman Anvekar of Bengaluru at the school run by the Shree Katyayani Education Society.
Recalling the contributions of Rajan Anvekar: All guests who spoke at the event were appreciative of the noble gestures of Rajan Vaman Anvekar, a Mechanical Engineering graduate with a Master's in Business Administration, and got into stock broking owning Chaitra Investments organization, Bengaluru.
A company with roaring business: The Chaitra Investments organization was incorporated on 18-01-1990 offering its services to its esteemed clients for over 34 years.
A series of noble deeds: Although the day's function was meant to launch the Smart Digital Board and Inverter set up, donated by Rajan Vaman Anvekar, they just happened to be his latest contributions apart from providing furniture to the library to the school of his ancestral village.
It was in these two rooms the school started functioning in 1950!
Vaman Anvekar's visionary footprints hailed: M.S.Prabhu, a former President of the Shree Katyayani Education Society doing everything possible for the development of the Shree Katyayani High School and a well-respected public personality of the region lauded the visionary efforts of late Vaman Anvekar.
No facilities for learning English: M.S. Prabhu also recalled-"During the first half of the 19th century, there were no facilities for learning English in the village and one had to go to the far-off Karwar district headquarters for the same. Thanks to the farsighted visionary steps of the late Vaman Anvekar and his unique contribution of building two rooms became the foundation of the Shree Katyayani High School at Aversa, the last village of Ankola Taluk, adjoining the Karwar Taluk and district headquarters".
Requirements galore in a big way: He also admired the generous gestures of any number of past students and their offspring in donating huge chunks of money to construct the remaining classrooms, auditorium, meeting venue in the playground and things like that. Many old students and donors continue to contribute. However, the requirements continue to galore in a big way. The auditorium is in a dilapidated condition and needs urgent steps to renovate. Likewise, there are many other works which need to be attended on a top priority, informed M.S. Prabhu.
Vaman Anvekar, a visionary ahead of his times: Rajan Vaman Anvekar described Vaman Anvekar, his late father as a great visionary ahead of his times. Despite having a bare minimum formal education up to the fourth standard, he went out of the way to venture to help out fellow citizens of the region wherever he lived.
20 tolas of gold to Venkateshwara temple: He revealed that his late father never revealed his philanthropic activities at home. It was only through his elder sisters, he could get some information about his social activities. He remembered the incident of his father donating 20 tolas of gold at the time of the construction of Venkateshwara temple at Saraswatpur locality in Dharwad apart from being associated with the development of the Vithoba temple in Aversa. He was one the trustees of Shree Ravalnath and Shivnath temple the family deity in Shiroda, Goa put in his hard efforts in raising funds in the surrounding cities with his team and became instrumental in its renovation and glory which hitherto was in a dilapidated condition. These measures have helped thousands of the devotees of this temple to visit and offer their devotion and pay obeisance.
Bungalow in seven guntas of land: Rajan V. Anvekar informs-"My father, in spite of not studying much turned out to be a great asset to the society. After dwelling on construction activities and tailoring for a brief period he migrated to Dharwad to settle down. He purchased seven guntas of land and built a bungalow when he was only 31 years old! Not only that, he went to the extent of leading a delegation to the then chief minister D Devaraj Urs to get the land sanction for the Daivajna Brahman Samaj Seva Sangh on Pune-Bengaluru Road in Dharwad. He was also instrumental in getting a temple, hostel and marriage hall which have all benefitted society at large. In comparison to his accomplishments we are far away", he admitted.
