Karnataka: Day 1 over without discussion or polling on confidence motion

The state Assembly was today adjourned amidst noisy scenes, angry exchanges between the ruling and opposition party members culminating into a Dharana by the ruling side thus paving way for a night-long protest by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party in the house.

In the process, the purpose for which the lower house had reassembled, a discussion and polling on the crucial vote of confidence motion became a casualty as the proposed debate never got initiated.

Thanks to HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, former chief minister and Congress legislature party leader and their clever ploy and strategy. The disruption of the proceedings, in spite of the Speaker allowing the leader of the house to move the motion on a vote of confidence, got derailed in such a way that the discussion never took off!

The lower house was scheduled to meet today with the sole intention of taking up the vote of confidence in the Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S)-Indian National Congress(INC) coalition government. But the turn out of things looked like the ruling combine had planned for a 'No business' move.
Siddaramaiah took his own sweet time to drive home the point of order, after several rounds of pandemonium in between, that the issue of issuing whip to all the 15 JD-S, INC legislators has to be resolved first much before taking up the vote of confidence motion for discussion and consideration.

Once Siddaramaiah ventured into his lengthy speech, HD Kumaraswamy got immersed into a bundle of papers, unperturbed by the frequent noisy exchanges between the ruling and opposition benches, as if he was busy preparing for some examinations very soon! Going by the mischievous smiles of many a Congress-JD-S strategy manager, including the CM, former CM and a host of many others it looked that the alliance partners had come very well prepared to block any discussion on the motion of vote of confidence.
Perhaps that was a well-orchestrated game plan of the ruling combine as it had lost the majority of the house in numbers and by their legislators physically. All the legislators holed up in a Mumbai hotel released another video today reiterating their old stance of remaining united and not withdrawing the resignations already submitted.

20 legislators remained absent to today's proceedings. The party-wise list goes this way:

Congress
1.Ramesh Jharkiholi
2.Mahesh Kumatalli
3.Pratapgouda Patil
4.Shivaram Hebbar
5.BC Patil
6.ST Somasekhar
7.Bhairathi Basavaraj
8.MTB Nagaraj
9.Dr K Sudhakar
10.R Roshan Baig
11.Anandsingh
12.Muniratna

JD-S
13.H Vishwanath
14.Gopalaiah
15.Narayangowda

Independents
16.R Shankar
17.Nagesh

Congress(On Health grounds)
18.Shreemanth Patil
19.B Nagendra

BSP
20.Prof N Mahesh

In the given situation the strength of the 224 members strong Assembly has dipped down to 204 thus making the magic number to 103 for a simple majority. But in changed circumstances, the saffron party's strength remains 105 while that of JD-S and INC has gone down to a mere 99!
All these statistics prove by simple calculations that the incumbent has no numbers to claim a majority. But the writing on the wall is no reason for the Mahaghatbandhan community to withdraw from the seat of power graciously!

HD Kumaraswamy, much before coming to the point of motion of vote of confidence, which incidentally he never came across, boasted of still left with some morale in public life. But his behaviour so far and more so in today's proceedings, don't look to match at all.On the other hand, BS Yeddyurappa, leader of the opposition, announced of a night-long protest in the Assembly against the ruling duos machinations of ensuring no discussion or polling over the vote of confidence motion.

Paul Mamu becomes part of Dharwad's history

People originally from Dharwad and most of whom migrated decades ago elsewhere across the state, country and world in search of green pastures were in for a sudden shock since late evening on Monday. They all shared similar sentiments, fond moments and profound grief in the passing away of Paul Cardoza of the renowned Hotel PAUL’S at Vidyagiri. He was 69 years old and not at all an age for his generation to bid adieu. Walks to Death: Paul Cardoza was a little bit hefty for his height and age; otherwise there were no visible symptoms to hint of any ailments he had been challenged with. Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o
