Pune Senior Citizens Become Role Models

The senior citizen forum of Silver Coin Appartments, Dhayari in Pune, decided to celebrate the ensuing Diwali in a new way. The project is named Narakasur wadha, of course in a totally new form through clearing the e-waste and unwanted waste stored in their homes. Space, a new problem: The demon Narakasur was first killed and then began the festival of lights, that is Deepawali. You all know that space is a problem in all households and offices, in all metros. Charity begins at home: The space utilization program thus took its new birth. As the saying goes that charity begins at home, the senior citizens decided in their Wednesday weekly meeting that each member should take up cleaning their flat by removing unwanted waste stored by them. Four days' deadline: Their first concentration was to give a call to keep e-waste, plastic waste and waste clothes, be kept in clean parking slots. The time given was four days and to the amazement of all, one dumper carried one ton of e-waste

H Jayadeva’s visual treat to Soundarya Lahari

Hunasagahalli Jayadeva, an octogenarian veteran artist recently displayed as he fondly prefers to call his philosophical form of art, a visual tribute and treat to Soundarya Lahari at the Karnataka Chitra Kala Parishat here. Art penance for a quarter century: Perhaps, his sustained patience, incessant enthusiasm and non-stop working for a little over a period of 25 years by itself to come out with this mega exhibition of 107 paintings is nothing else but mind boggling. But what appears amazing is his simple, humble and unassuming submission: “I have only tried to reflect my thoughts and understanding of the great poetic rendering in praise of divine mother in the form of these paintings”. Right eye is the sun , left eye is the moon,  third eye little reddish in effect. Days, weeks, months and years: If you ask him on the numbers of days he devoted to start drawing and completing each painting, you shall only be awestruck: “Maybe, I haven’t kept a count on them as the periods kept on va

Nizam regime; Controversies Continue to Haunt

17th September every year is celebrated as Liberation Day to commemorate the end of Nizam regime and beginning of a new chapter in the form of democratic form of popular government. However, the claims, counter claims and controversies continue to remain till date. Nizam not a foreigner: Najaf Ali Khan, grandson of the last Nizam or Nizam VII contradicts the popular assumptions and says: "Liberation means liberating from foreign yoke or from foreign rulers. The Nizam was not a foreigner. Hence the question of liberation did not arise. It is equally incorrect to say that the monarchical rule of Nizam VII came to an end and ushered in democracy. They were no participation of the people and much less of politicians...  ...Day of Genocide: The wounds of Operation Polo (Police Action) are still deep and fresh. It is not a liberation day but the day of genocide, the implications of which can be felt even today. The horrible memories still hound the minds causing trauma to many poor ci

Bengaluru: Cloud burst expose civic bodies

The cloud burst over the city from the past one week and more so on Sunday 04 September has not just rattled the daily life but literally exposed the preparedness of the civic bodies at such junctures. East gets marooned: No doubt, the Sunday rains dubbed to be only such in the past 94 years has brought the whole of East Bengaluru under waters. If the main roads at Bellanduru, Maratahalli, Sarjapur, HSR Layout leading to the Electronic city have transformed into streams the residential layouts look like lakes. Villas become swimming pools: The pathetic conditions of those who shelved money like water to build luxury villas are made to weep as the residential units wore a sight of open swimming pools as long as you can see. These residents' have also been compelled to flee from their own houses, for owning which most of them had to drench their lifetime earnings. Normal life goes haywire: However, the lives of all those migrant labourers who came from all across the state and coun

Queen Elizabeth’s Bengaluru connection

Elizabeth II, late Queen of the United Kingdom during her reign of 70 years and 214 days visited the then Bangalore, capital city of Mysuru state with her husband Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in 1961. The visit coincided with the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Bible Society of India and Ceylon as Bangalore happened to be the headquarters. Warm welcome at the airport: Jayachamrajendra Wadiyar, hitherto the Maharaja of Mysuru princely state and later taking over as the Governor of the independent Indian state welcomed the royal couple at the airport on behalf of the state government. The Maharaja presented the queen with a bouquet while the Mayor representing the city garlanded the Prince. Hindi translation presented: To commemorate the occasion of the 150th anniversary celebrations of setting up of the Bible Society of India and Ceylon, the queen was presented with a copy of Hindi translation of the Bible. It was then pronounced that Hindi was one of the 125 language

Umesh Katti: Belagavi loses a heavy weight politician

In the passing away of Umesh Vishwanath Katti(61), the state and more so the border Belagavi district has lost a heavy weight well known for his sway, maneuvering and manipulative politics in the district. Umesh Katti Lost only once with Congress: An eight times MLA from the same Hukkeri Assembly constituency from Janata Party(JP), Janata Dal(JD), Janata Dal United(JD(U)), Janata Dal Secular(JD-S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he only failed to make it by a margin of 800 votes on behalf of the Indian National Congress (INC)! A chameleon of sorts: He changed parties not once or twice but for a record number of six times and proved to the onlookers that parties didn’t really matter to him for succeeding in electoral politics. And irrespective of the party he belonged, was successful enough in managing a berth in the state cabinet. Day dreamer of becoming a CM: However, whenever he was left out of the ministry for whatsoever reasons he fondly floated the utopian idea of carving

Ms Gauri Prakash Savadi, an Indian ex-pat who settled in Singapore is a naturalized citizen now and originally hailing from Hubballi has made the state of Karnataka proud by bagging the prestigious High Performing Singapore Police Officer Award. The award has been bestowed for her accomplishments on the eve of the bicentennial celebrations of the Singapore Police Day Parade, Commemoration Day. I believe in contributing and inspiring”, she tells. Ms Gauri Prakash Savadi She asserts, “My way of looking at it is keeping contributing wherever you are. Anyone of the age of 16 is capable physically, mentally and emotionally. Let’s all make a beginning, maybe let it start from picking up the garbage”. She has been with the

KCR continues to remain the only option for the newly carved state Telangana

Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao popularly known as KCR has proved himself a powerful regional leader of the newly carved Telangana state by successively romping back to power for the second tenure as well. A founder of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the regional political outfit floated by the strategist KCR continues to dominate the young state drubbing all other so called national parties at bay to the seat of power. A self made leader: Many a political commentator in fact had pooh-poohed the stance of KCR, when he quit from the ruling Telugu Desam party and stepping down from the position of Deputy Speaker of the undivided Andhra Pradesh Assembly with the dream of forming a separate Telangana state. Some of his political adversaries even went to the extent of predicting his political fortunes as well. However, true to his typical characteristic of a self made leader, KCR stood committed to his goal until it was ensured. Telangana devoid of opposition! Thanks to his pragmatic approach

CR Murali, a city based Chartered Accountant is quite enthusiastic about the new Food and Nutrition courses on the way to be launched by Ravindra Prasad, wellness Guru and former International Operations Head of the Art of Living (AoL) of Sri Ravishankar Guruji. In an exhaustive interview he spells out his thoughts on the subject.  CA CR Murali Here are the excerpts: Q: How come food and nutrition has come to focus all of a sudden? CR Murali: Health has become an issue today. The input and output of a system gets deteriorated because of the food while food acts as an agent. As you might be aware of the Hindu shastras don’t consider disease as negative aspect whereas the modern medicine tends to consider it so. It is only a symptom of something going wrong in the body functions while the cure is given by Lord Vishnu himself in his avatar as Dhanwantri. So, for us medicine is not science but a part of Veda and as good as Bhagavad-Gita itself. Every activity of human being, why just human
