Mind management techniques can avoid several diseases: Dr R Nagaratna Raghuram

“Thanks to a host of our ancient sages like Patanjali, Vashista, Tejas and Lord Krishna, most of the diseases annoying the mankind can very well be controlled and avoided by practising mind management techniques. And this has been proved with any number of researches conducted by the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana Arogyadhama(S-VYASA)” says Dr Ramarao Nagaratna Raghuram, Medical Director.

Medical claims proved wrong: “The purpose of practising Yoga is for mind management. If Patanjali insists to have a positive mind, Vashista lays emphasis on slowing the mind for achieving mastery. If Lord Krishna concurs on the same, Tejas has already given a definition. But medical sciences claim that Arthritis, Asthama cannot be controlled by the mind. However, our research findings in the last four decades have proved these self-proclaimed assumptions wrong”, she informed.

Chemical imbalances due to negative emotions: Dr Ramarao Nagaratna Raghuram, further elaborates-“Vashista categorically declares: The negative emotions, long-standing stress, hatred, depression, unfulfilled desire in the mind leads to chemical imbalances. The release of unwanted chemicals causes diseases”.

Make your own internal observations: Not only that, she continues-“Vashista also advises: Make your own internal observations when you are angry, under depression and anxiety. Just give it a try to observe your own mind, thinking and thoughts. Taking a positive aspect will motivate If it has picked up unnecessary, uncontrolled, speeded up, rewinding emotions leads to anxiety. So, occupy your mind by taking the capacity to think in a just manner”.

Mind is the root cause: Dr Ramarao Nagaratna Raghuram concludes-“Vashista is of the firm belief: Although the inner mind is the same, outer mind thinks otherwise and thereby brain causes uncalled chemicals. Hence, the mind is the root cause of any disease. The same can be reduced by slowing down of factors like anger, anxiety and unwanted emotions”.

Several techniques for reduction of speed: She claims with proven records-“For reducing the speed of mind, there are several techniques like Asana, Pranayama, Prayer, Meditation and Diet. These techniques have proved detrimental in treating a number of diseases”.

A monthly Asthma syndrome: “One woman patient rushed to the hospital every month for undergoing Asthmatic attack. Once, there was a delay in going to the hospital and instead, she went to her mother’s place. After reaching, all symptoms went off. Next month, when she feared the attack, made it to her mother and there was no Asthma! Every month she repeated the practice and to her wonder, Asthma was nowhere near...

…Salary day fight with hubby: “It so used to happen that there would be a fight between the wife and husband on the salary day. Once she started going to her mother’s place all those thoughts withered away. When the mind is frustrated the mind speed increases and the tightening of air cavities puts pressure on the nervous system. However, treating her with slowing down of mind and breathing techniques Asthma went away without any medicines”, reveals Dr Ramarao Nagaratna Raghuram.

Lakhs of Asthma patients treated: She gave this example just to quote. But if you ponder over the number of Asthma patients being treated so far, here she goes-“So far lakhs of Asthma patients are being treated. Every disease has its own special techniques based on the concepts developed on the principles of Patanjali. A former Asthma patient has become a counsellor, Trainer, Therapist and is now in charge of the kitchen. Another Asthma patient has become a caretaker. Many of them after improvement become our volunteers. One cook evolved into a big Yoga trainer and is now the Administrative officer in the institute. Likewise, there are any numbers of such instances…”

Four years for the publication of a paper on Asthma: Dr Ramarao Nagaratna Raghuram recalled an amusing experience of publishing a paper on their research findings on Asthma patients in the British Medical Journal-“It was in 1981-82. A research paper of about 2,500 words about the findings on treating Asthma patients with Yogic techniques was posted to the British Medical Journal. The magazine just rejected it outrightly giving no reasons. Dr Shadaksharappa, a well-wisher banged the Editor about summary rejection. He insisted the Editor give reasons. But we followed it up. As these days, there were no e-mails and all communications had to be routed only through the post office. The correspondence went on for four years. The queries were for almost fifty pages. And at last, the paper was published”.

Paul Mamu becomes part of Dharwad's history

People originally from Dharwad and most of whom migrated decades ago elsewhere across the state, country and world in search of green pastures were in for a sudden shock since late evening on Monday. They all shared similar sentiments, fond moments and profound grief in the passing away of Paul Cardoza of the renowned Hotel PAUL’S at Vidyagiri. He was 69 years old and not at all an age for his generation to bid adieu. Walks to Death: Paul Cardoza was a little bit hefty for his height and age; otherwise there were no visible symptoms to hint of any ailments he had been challenged with. Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o
