Arun Jaitley's contribution to BJP's growth in Karnataka

ImageSource: indiatoday.in
Arun Jaitley, former Union Minister who passed away this afternoon in the capital after a prolonged illness had maintained close ties with the people of Karnataka much before he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and had remained in constant touch with several party leaders from across the state till the end.

He was closely associated with M Rama Jois, former Supreme Court judge who hails from the state. Thanks to his expertise on varied subjects like law, finance, corporate affairs among many others he was a frequent visitor to the state and more so to the Bengaluru city for delivering special lectures.During his innumerable visits to the city, he gave special talks on many crucial law issues like the vexed Ayodhya dispute, Uniform Civil Code, Article 370, corporate affairs at the Bengaluru Advocates Association, party fora like workers, legislators' and public meetings.

But a beginning of life long relationship with the state started once he was appointed as in charge of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in 2002. After his new assignment, Arun Jaitley became a frequent visitor to the state and also made use of the opportunity to travel all regions of the state.

Thanks to his such fruitful visits he became well-known not only in party circles, cadres and leaders but amongst people of all hues enthusiastic in public affairs and matters that concerned the average common man and the nation as a whole.Perhaps his mastery over the subjects he dwelt in and the oratory skills he mastered in dealing with them just bowled down the listeners paving way for huge applause and great admiration towards the noteworthy public personality irrespective of the party affiliations.

During the 2004 state Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party bagged 79 seats, the highest ever till then. In spite of such never before accomplishment in electoral history, the saffron party was far behind the magical 113 numbers in a house of 225 to form a government of its own!

The BS Yediyurappa-Arun Jaitley led BJP combination although managed to wrest 79 constituencies was yet restricted to remain in the opposition benches as the regional Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S) outfit acted swiftly to share power with the Indian National Congres(INC).Thus N Dharam Singh of the Congress party became the chief minister while Siddaramaiah of the JDS was sworn in as the Deputy chief minister of the first-ever coalition government in the state, which however also earned the dubious distinction of being a short lived one!

Probably the significant contribution of Arun Jaitley in fostering an unprecedented growth of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state revolved around his multifaceted persona of drawing home the rudiments of a socio-cultural nationalism for the progress of the country.

His novel way of putting forth the ideology to strengthen the party from grassroots in an amicable manner had many takers on the ground. Thanks to his astute acumen of being a thorough professional pleader, he made the best use of his vocabulary to convince his audience plain and straight!

He succeeded in mesmerizing his listeners to subscribe to his thoughts of the party ideals and the inevitability of a commitment towards a liberal approach for developmental politics with the basic Hindu tenets in mind. One could disagree with him but at the same time, it was equally difficult to negate and disprove his ideas and thoughts as such was his towering personality!

Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover!
