Yoga, now a powerful tool for self-employment: Dr Nagaratna Raghuram

Yoga education has come a long way in this country and of late elsewhere across the globe. Beginning with crash courses, camps, certificate, Diploma among many a other, these days you have courses at the Degree, Post Graduate and Ph.D level too. “Thanks to the ever-increasing curiosity, enthusiasm and commitment towards learning Yoga, it has become a powerful tool for self-employment”, says Dr Nagaratna Raghuram, Medical Director of Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana Arogyadhama(S-VYASA), here.

S-VYASA, the only University dedicated to Yoga in the country: “In fact, these days you have any number of educational institutions offering many Yoga related courses. However, S-VYASA happens to be the only University in the country completely dedicated to Yoga studies”, she says.

Eight Central Universities have separate Yoga Departments: “For record sake, Bihar School of Yoga (BSY) hitherto based out of Munger in Bihar happens to be the first institution imparting Yoga courses in the country. Sadly, it closed down for various problems long back. Ours (S-VYASA) is the second one. You also have the Baba Ramdev institute catering to Yoga courses. There is another organization called Deva Samskruti Vidyapeetha, but it is not a University. There are many Universities, including the new eight Central Universities wherein you have separate Yoga Departments and most of them are headed by our former students”, proudly exclaimed Dr Nagaratna Raghuram.

Yoga courses a big boost for self-employment: She also asserts-“Of course, there are several courses on offer. But the B Sc in Yoga at the degree level and M Sc in Yoga at the Post Graduate level have proved to be career-oriented, lucrative, professional courses. Apart from the individual well being these courses have evolved into a powerful tool for generation of self-employment”, informs Dr Nagaratna Raghuram.

Yoga PG earns more than an Engineering graduate: Just to give an instance of how Yoga courses matter in reality, she illustrated an example-“There are twins who are both engineering graduates. One of them pursued M Sc in Yoga while the other became a software professional. Interestingly, the software professional got a job with a salary of Rs.40, 000/- while the other with an M Sc in Yoga bagged a hefty package of Rs.1, 20,000/-“.

S-VYASA offers multiple courses: Dr Nagaratna Raghuram also enlists the variety of courses on offer at the Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandana Samsthana Arogyadhama(S-VYASA). The Yoga courses are as follows:
*B Sc and M Sc in Yoga & Education
*B Sc and M Sc in Yoga
*B Sc and M Sc in Yoga & Management
*BNYS, MD (Yoga and rehab), Ph.D

Paul Mamu becomes part of Dharwad's history

People originally from Dharwad and most of whom migrated decades ago elsewhere across the state, country and world in search of green pastures were in for a sudden shock since late evening on Monday. They all shared similar sentiments, fond moments and profound grief in the passing away of Paul Cardoza of the renowned Hotel PAUL’S at Vidyagiri. He was 69 years old and not at all an age for his generation to bid adieu. Walks to Death: Paul Cardoza was a little bit hefty for his height and age; otherwise there were no visible symptoms to hint of any ailments he had been challenged with. Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o

Priest on his own inclination: Dr Godwin Shiri himself voluntarily opted for the priestly vocation of becoming a Pastor at a young age, much against the wishes of his family. The sight of the Cross of Lord Jesus Christ and the scenario of thousands of workers marching holding red flags in his native town Mangaluru had a lasting effect on him as a young boy. Recalling the good old days Godwin Shiri admits-"Perhaps they sowed in me the seeds of compassion and social justice".
