Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Results as Expected, Kerala creates history

The outcome of general elections in the three South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry Union Territory is on expected lines devoid of any big surprises. Dravida Munnetra Kazgham(DMK) led alliance is victorious in Tamil Nadu while the ruling Left Democratic Front has registered a historic win in Kerala breaking the phenomenon so far of alternative Front governments successively. Thanks for joining hands with the NR Congress, the NDA is set to form a government in the tiny Puducherry Union Territory.

Tamil Nadu went to the polls for the first-ever time without the formidable sworn enemies, mass leaders, and stalwarts in their own way, J Jayalalitha of the AIADMK and M Karunanidhi of the DMK. By and large but a couple of times, the DMK and AIADMK have been coming to power alternatively.

In the absence of any mass leader in the ruling AIADMK Party to fill up the void created by Jayaram Jayalalitha, the routing of the ruling Party was but for quite evident. Thanks to Rajnikanth, the multilingual superstar, and demigod of Tamil cinema, and his stance of abandoning politics before entering it made DMK's pathway literally a cakewalk.

VK Sasikala, former President and General Secretary of AIADMK after the demise of J Jayalalitha underwent imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case. However, after her release last January, she declared her resolve to quit politics while the rival factions in the original Party fought one another.

Pinarayi Vijayan creates history in Kerala: Although, just like in Tamil Nadu, the Left Democratic Front(LDF) romping back to power in Kerala was a forgone conclusion as soon as the dates of general elections were announced. But no one ever imagined that Captain, as he is popularly called in the coastal state, Pinarayi Vijayan would walk away with a landslide victory like never before in state politics.

This is the first time since 1977 a ruling front has been voted back to power in the State. No government in the past has won a second term in the State for more than four decades, points out Kumar Chellappan, a veteran journalist based in Kerala.

According to S Ramdas, another senior journalist from Kerala and settled in Bengaluru: This is the victory of Pinarayi Vijayan. To quote PC George, MLA from Poonjar, Kottayam district who lost his elections, it is the victory of Pinarayism. Pinarayism could tomorrow be a term that Left thinkers might use like Maoism, Leninism, and Stalinism!

He also asserts: India is seeing personality cult over political ideologies. That is why Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamta Bannerjee, and K Chandrasekhar Rao have been winning against every odds.

There were several major allegations against the CM and his government. But it looks like the people preferred to ignore them and vote for him and his team for the good work they have done, whether combating the floods, Nipa or Covid pandemic and other such challenges concludes S Ramdas.

N Rangaswamy does it again in Puducherry: Nadesan Rangaswamy of the All India NR Congress looks like bouncing back to power in Puducherry for the third time. Fondly referred to as People Chief Minister(Makkal Mudhalvar) and as living junior Kamaraj, he is notoriously known for switching loyalties just to remain in the hot seat.

He also boasts of the only distinction in the whole country of emerging a chief minister within three months of floating a new regional Party!

This is the only state(Union Territory) among the three States in South India that went to the polls, the NDA is getting prepared to share power with a regional outfit again for the first-ever time.

He was 69 years old and not at all an age for his generation to bid adieu. Walks to Death: Paul Cardoza was a little bit hefty for his height and age; otherwise there were no visible symptoms to hint of any ailments he had been challenged with. Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o
