He was the first president of the state Bharatiya Janata Party and during his stint as a Member of the state Legislative Council had become a nightmare for the R Gundurao led Congress party government in the state during the early eighties.

He had exposed many a corruption scandal of the ministers in the Congress ministry and was responsible for the resignation of many ministers.

AK Subbaiah was well-known for his firebrand speeches unleashing terror in the minds of corrupt Congressmen of his time.At a juncture when AB Vajpayee was regarded as Akhil Bharatiya Vajpayee so was AK Subbaiah as Akhil Karnataka Subbaiah.

Thanks to his terrific homework in unravelling the hidden undercover deals of those in power, he was responsible for taking the saffron party to a new high in the minds of the people and had almost become a household name across the state.Interestingly he bid adieu to the party after he was stripped from the position of the state BJP president during the regime of Ramakrishna Hegde, first chief minister of Janata Party and a non-Congress government.

He had issued a warning to the RK Hegde led government of withdrawing support of 18 BJP MLAs' if it continued in its anti-people crimes. Then the Hegde government had demolished hutments and houses of ordinary people erected in state government lands.

As history would have it, he later embraced the Indian National Congress(INC) party which he had opposed tooth and nail till then! He was responsible for the exit of CM Ibrahim, then a minister in Gundurao cabinet for his involvement in the then infamous Rolex watch scam. For having joined the Congress AK Subbaiah had to share public platforms along with the same CM Ibrahim later!

It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o
