The 14 months old HD Kumaraswamy led Janata Dal-Secular(JD-S) and Indian National Congress(INC) coalition government, as expected lost its vote of confidence motion on the floor of the house this evening, paving way for a Bharatiya Janata Party-led new government.

The vote of confidence motion moved by HD Kumaraswamy, Chief Minister received 99 votes while 105 votes were polled against the same. 20 MLAs' belonging to the ruling JDS-INC combine, including stayed away from the proceedings while KR Rameshkumar, speaker opted not to vote.

103 is the magical number required in the present circumstances and the present alliance struggled to muster a strength of only 99.

It may be recollected here that although the Monsoon session of the state Assembly commenced from 12 July, the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party insisted on a floor test on the pretext that the ruling combine had lost the majority.Initially, HD Kumaraswamy had claimed of seeking a vote of confidence of the house on 18 July itself but kept on dilly-dallying politics to prolong the proceedings of the house. He cited reasons like many legislators intend to take part in the discussion.

Governor Vajubhai Vala had issued directions to the chief minister to prove his majority on the floor of the house before 1.30 pm on 18 July which the latter chose to neglect. Even the Governor's second deadline of 6 pm the following day went unheeded as CM Kumaraswamy preferred not to adhere to it
KR Rameshkumar, speaker directed the chief minister to take up the voting on Monday for which, both Kumaraswamy and Siddaramaiah, Congress legislature party leader consented. But on Monday, both of them continued to adopt prolonging theory.

Although the house sat till 11.45 pm Yesterday, it had to be again adjourned till today without transacting the main agenda of floor test.At last, on Tuesday evening with much reluctance HD Kumaraswamy moved the vote of confidence motion for polling. As BS Yeddyurappa insisted for the division of votes, the row-wise physical verification of votes took place.

Now BS Yeddyurappa, leader of the opposition party is set to become the state chief minister for the fourth time. Party insiders look jubilant in public for the party coming to power after a long gap but confide in private about a short innings to BS Yeddyurappa.Apart from BS Yeddyurappa's namesake tenure, the party also faces a challenge of accommodating all the dissident JDS and INC legislators who have quit their parent parties with the sole intention of ensuring the saffron party to assume power.

N Mahesh, Kollegal BSP MLA has been expelled from the party following failure to abide by the party's directions to vote in favour of the alliance government. Besides the sword of disqualification also hangs freely on the heads of the dissident legislators.

He was 69 years old and not at all an age for his generation to bid adieu. Walks to Death: Paul Cardoza was a little bit hefty for his height and age; otherwise there were no visible symptoms to hint of any ailments he had been challenged with. Even on the fateful day, he attended to the chores in the hotel until the afternoon before proceeding to neighbour Hubballi for a cardiac test. It is said that he literally walked to the health check-up facility to undergo the examination. No, he was not destinated for it as he suffered a massive stroke and never to recover! A jovial personality: In the passing away of Paul Cardoza Dharwad has lost one o
